  4. Early Animation (1920 – 1928) Worked with Paul Terry who later left to create Terrytoons Produced cartoon series, Aesop’s Film Fables Terry disputed sound in cartoons, part of the reason for the split Quiet for most of his first 8 years in animation

Van Beuren Studios • Small studio in New York • Released Terry’s first sound cartoon Dinner Time (1928) • “Tom and Jerry” (1931) - Dick and Larry • The Sunshine Makers (1935): Implement of Color and Sound • Most Successful: Rainbow Parade Cartoons • One shot shorts, no recurring characters • Featured existing characters (Felix the Cat)
