  1. (Leader) Under the Old Covenant, the Temple in Jerusalem was the dwelling place of God, the place to meet God, the place to worship, the place where His people met and were taught. However…

  2. (All)“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah….” “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people.”

  3. (All) “No longer will they teach their neighbours or say to one another, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.” (Jeremiah 31 v 31 & 33-34)

  4. (Leader) Under this New Covenant, God’s dwelling was no longer just in the Temple of Jerusalem. The Temple changed. It became the Church… (All)Jesus said… “Where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18 v20)

  5. (Leader) ‘For we are God’s fellow-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building… Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells among you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred and you together are that temple.’ (1 Corinthians 3 v 9, 16-17)

  6. (All) ‘What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people.” (2 Corinthians 6 v 16)

  7. (Leader) ‘As you come to Him, the living Stone - rejected by human beings but chosen by God and precious to Him - you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.’ (1 Peter 2 v 4-5)

  8. (Leader) You are members of God’s household… ‘built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone.’

  9. (All) ‘In Him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit.’ (Ephesians 2 v 19-22)

  10. (Leader) Like the Temple in Jerusalem, this new Temple required sacrifice to enable it… but the Temple is not just the Church. Paul wrote: ‘Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God?’

  11. (Leader) ‘You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies.’ (1 Corinthians 6 v19-20) (All) Jesus said: “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14 v 23)

  12. (Leader) We should embrace this promise from God whole heartedly, giving as fully as we are able. (All) “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house.”

  13. (All) “Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

  14. (Leader) “Then all the nations will call you blessed for yours will be a delightful land.” (Malachi 3 v 10 & 12)
