Am I in the right room? • Room: W-9 • Teacher: Mrs. Kwiatkowski-Yee • Class: ESL, English III, English IV, Honors English III and IV. • (Take Roll)
Where am I supposed to Sit? • You have a 3x5 card with a colored number on it. Each row of seats is numbered in its own color. Look for the row with the same color, then look for the same number; this is your seat! • You may be moved to a different seat. The seat that you are in when I dismiss you today is your assigned seat in my seating chart. • The seating arrangement is subject to change over the next few days. Please be patient as we get settled. • If you forget your assigned seat, please check with me before class starts.
Will Mrs. Yee treat me fairly? • Yes, • Always! https://depaul.digication.com/global_voices/Confessions_of_a_Third-Grade_Bigot
m&m game • Please write your responses on your own sheet of paper, and save for our team activity. • Select four (4) pieces of candy from your cup. DO NOT • eat them! • Red– Hobbies • Green – Favorite place on earth • Blue – Favorite memory • Yellow – Dream job • Orange – What makes you unique • Brown – How many siblings?
How will I be graded? • I promise not to grade any classroom activity that is not important! • You will be graded on reading, speaking, listening, and of course, writing! • At least 70% of your final grade will come from weekly assignments, participation, unit projects.
What are the rules in this classroom? • Respect: Others,Self,Property. • Honesty: We all make mistakes! I will be honest with you, and take responsibility for my mistakes. Please be honest with me, so you can avoid referrals! • Follow school rules as outlined in the Major and Minor System (see rule #1). • Remember that violations happen in degrees. I DO NOT assign major referrals, but students that are sent to the office from my classroom for rule violations are always at risk of a major referral..
Respect Self • Keep a positive Attitude: • Never say “I can’t,” because you can! (I will never ask you to do anything you cannot do.) • Take responsibility for your own actions. • Remember—when life gets tough, the tough get going. If you are really struggling with a problem that your friends or teachers can’t help you with, it IS okay to ask to talk to counselor about how to get through it! • Leave your cell phone in your locker—the only one you hurt by using it in class is yourself.
Respect Others • Recognize personal space: some people need more, some need less. • Remember that no means no! • Keep your hands to yourself. • Think before you speak—it is easier to stay silent than to try to take back harsh words.
Respect Property • Don’t write on, or otherwise deface, the desks or walls in my classroom, or anywhere else in the school. • You may not write on, or erase, white boards unless I ask you to for a class activity. Don’t take things that don’t belong to you. • Don’t touch or borrow things from Mrs. Yee’s or Mrs. G’s desks. • Throw your trash in the trash can, and be sure to clean up after yourself.
