  2. Remember that to express the idea of what is happening right now, you use the present progressive. Por el momento, estoy cocinando. To express the idea of what was happening, you would use the imperfect progressive. Estaba limpiando cuando se resbaló. (imperfect progressive) (preterit)

  3. Estar(present) + -ando/-iendo present progressive Estar (imperfect) + -ando/-iendo imperfect progressive e i o u i y dormir: durmiendo morir: muriendo creer: creyendo leer: leyendo traer: trayendo oír: oyendo decir: diciendo pedir: pidiendo preferir: prefiriendo repetir: repitiendo seguir: siguiendo servir: sirviendo vestir: vistiendo

  4. Object pronouns can either go before the conjugated verb (estar) or attached to the present participle. If attached, it will require an accent. Nos estábamos lavando las manos cuando se apagaron las luces. Estábamos lavándonos las manos cuando se apagaron las luces. la-van-do + nos = lavándonos

  5. Imperfect Progressive and Preterite • Note that the imperfect progressive describes what was taking place while the preterite tells a specific occurance in the past or interrupts the action.

  6. Imperfect Progressive and Preterite • Él estaba corriendocuando selastimóel tobillo.
