Object pronouns can either go before the conjugated verb (estar) or attached to the present participle. If attached, it will require an accent. Nos estábamos lavando las manos cuando se apagaron las luces. Estábamos lavándonos las manos cuando se apagaron las luces. la-van-do + nos = lavándonos
Imperfect Progressive and Preterite • Note that the imperfect progressive describes what was taking place while the preterite tells a specific occurance in the past or interrupts the action.
