  2. PREPARE FOR LAB WORK

  3. Study laboratory procedures prior to class. • Never perform unauthorized experiments.

  4. Keep bags and other clutter in lecture area and out of lab

  5. DRESS FOR LAB WORK

  6. Tie back long hair. • Do not wear loose sleeves as they tend to get in the way. • Wear closed toe shoes.

  7. Wear lab aprons during all laboratory sessions. • Wear safety goggles during all laboratory sessions. • Wear gloves when using chemicals that irritate or can be absorbed through the skin.

  8. GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

  9. First Aid Know how to use the safety shower, eye wash, fire extinguisher and first aid kit.

  10. AVOID CONTACT WITH CHEMICALS • Never taste or "sniff" chemicals. • Never draw materials in a pipette with your mouth.

  11. When heating substances in a test tube, point the mouth away from people. • Never carry dangerous chemicals or hot equipment near other people.

  12. Other Precautions • Never eat, drink, or bring food into the laboratory. 

  13. No Playing Around in the Lab

  14. Place Broken Glass in Appropriate Containers

  15. Turn off burners and electrical appliances when you leave the lab.
