  3. Kent Test (11+) Registration opens – 1 June 2018 Apply before – 2nd July 2018 On-line or post

  4. 6th September 2018 Kent Tests held in school

  5. Shepway Test on Saturday 8th September 2018- 9am to 2pm Shepway Test Folkestone Girls, apply by 18th July 2018 Harvey apply by Monday 9th July 2018

  6. Kent Test consists of • English and Maths Test – 60mins, multiple choice in 2 separate sections • Reasoning Test – 60mins, multiple choice in, one verbal reasoning section and 4 non-verbal, separately timed • Writing exercise (40mins, not marked but may be used for HT appeal) • Example questions will be posted on www.kent.gov.uk

  7. Answer sheets All the multiple choice questions are answered on a separate answer sheet. Answers are recorded by drawing a line through the box marking the correct answer. e.g. a b c d e 7

  8. Pass Marks Out of the 3 tests: • No individual test score to be less than 106 • Total of the 3 test scores to be at least 320 The pass marks may change from year to year

  9. Shepway Test Written test The written test consists of the following elements: • Half an hour of creative writing Computer test The computer test consists of the following elements: • Comprehension • Vocabulary and understanding of Words • Mathematics • Non-verbal reasoning

  10. Instructions for schools:“Coaching is not required or permitted. If we receive evidence that a school is coaching we reserve the right to unlink it from PESE…”

  12. 11th October 2018 Results posted to parents by first class post saying if they are suitable for Grammar school. If applied on-line will receive email after 4pm of the 12th.

  13. Throughout October • Online information • Secondary schools hold open evenings • Visit to get feel for each (make up your own minds, not just what others say) • Consider other factors like transport

  14. Filling in Common Admission Form • Choice of 4 schools • Put in preference order • Do use all 4 choices otherwise LA may offer a place in any available school

  15. If passed Kent Test • Can apply for grammar school But no guarantee you will get into one if over subscribed

  16. If not passed Kent Test • Can still apply for grammar school • BUT will not be given one – will be given another school instead. • HOWEVER, could then lodge parental appeal in March.

  17. If choosing an all ability school More straight forward but no guarantee

  18. Fri 1 March 2019 Offer letters posted to parents (may be sooner on-line) Contain info on how to appeal if unhappy

  19. If you didn’t get first choice, you will be placed on waiting list and if spaces come up, you may be offered that space. If you do not get a place, you can make parental appeal.

  20. Fri 29 March 2019 Closing date for parental appeals.

Choice of schools • Visit several schools with your child • Ask questions and get a feel for each school • Decide with your child which school will suit them best Points to consider: • will your child keep up at grammar school? • mixed school vs single sex school • extra-curricular facilities or opportunities • transport costs - £250 for travel pass 21

  23. Practice • Advisable to familiarise children with question types and timings • Practice tests available through Amazon / Waterstones / WH Smith etc. • Practice tests should be multiple choice • Review English & Maths over the holidays • The Kent Test questions are set by: GL Assessment 23
