TRAVEL • Qantas quotes have been accepted. Students are travelling on two separate planes on the forward and return journeys. • Transport to and from Brisbane airport will be provided by parents. • Group of 100 Year 6 students for June 2-5. (Monday to Thursday). • Murrays Coaches and tour company will be utilised in Canberra. www.murrays.com.au • Murrays Coaches meet us at Canberra airport.
ACCOMMODATION INCANBERRA • Canberra Lakes Carotel – used by EHSS on our previous tours. • 7km north of Canberra. www.carotel.com.au • Accommodation will be in Family cabins for both groups – each cabin can hold up to 10 students – could be a group of 8, 9 or 10 - own facilities in each room, shower, toilet, tv, - no reason to leave the room at night. Teachers hold the key for the room, but students can open door in case of emergency. Students are shown the teachers’ rooms in case of an emergency through the night. • Comfortable and warm. • Special dietary requirements are catered for. • Security on site.
VENUES • Parliament House, afternoon tea with MP. • Australian War Memorial • Parliamentary Education Office • National Planning Centre • Questacon – Science Centre, CSIRO • National Gallery, Canberra Deep Space Communications Centre • National Museum, Mt Ainslie • Dinosaur Museum, National Film and Sound Archives , Telstra Tower
REQUIREMENTS • Good warm street clothes for travelling on plane and for 3 more days and nights. • Warm clothing essential – long pants - jeans or track suit pants • Beanies, gloves, jacket • Socks and shoes - no open shoes at all • Full school uniform for Tuesday at Parliament House – including school coloured (NAVY) track suit pants and Canberra jacket. • Toiletries + school hat for each day • Medication – Hand to teacher in charge - Asthma -2 puffers – one to carry on person, one to be kept in teacher’s Medication bag • Letter from medical practitioner regarding the dosage and time for medication (IMPORTANT)
BEHAVIOUR • High standard of behaviour expected at all times. • It is a privilege to attend the tour – not a right, so that if previous behaviour at school is seen at placing a group at risk, that student will not attend and a refund may apply. The health and safety of all students is paramount. • Normal procedures to be followed if infringements occur on tour.
NIGHT ACTIVITIES • Activity each night except Monday night • CSIRO night session • Institute of Sport • Shower, teeth, diaries • Bed time around 9:00pm – earlier on Monday night
PAYMENT • We have our maximum numbers at the moment and have a waiting list. • Maximum of 100 students set by Parliament House and the EEC • Final payment due Friday 4th April (last day of Term 1): $450 due
STAFF ATTENDING • Year 6 teachers – we strive to have a ratio of one teacher to 13 or 14 students. • Teachers will attend with their own class –SEP teacher for Special Needs students • Staff have the required up to date First Aid certificate.
