Miguel Hidalgo • Miguel was a Mexican Catholic Priest, his main role in the Spanish Independence movement was that he rang the bell that officially started the revolution against the Spanish. He captured many cities with the Indians but then later captured in 1811.
Miguel’s Key Events • He rang the bell that started the war of independence. He is like George Washington because both took a risk for their country’s freedom. Both had major events such as George’s Delaware Crossing compared to Miguel’s ringing of the bell.
About Miguel • Miguel was a brave leader he took a risk to fight even being in a lower social class. • Miguel had Indian heritage and was a priest he started the revolution by ringing his church bell gathering the town’s people for a revolution.
Jose Morelos • Morelos was also a priest and revolutionary. His main contribution was that he was in overall command of the Mexican Revolution. Morelos is considered a hero by Mexicans and has cities and towns named after him. He was later captured and executed by the Spanish.
About Jose Morelos • Morelos came to importance after Hidalgo lost in Mexico City. He would be the next one to lead the rebellion. • In 1812 Miguel led his army to capture 2 cities against the viceroys Spanish Army. The cities were Oaxaca and Acapulco. • He is like George Washington because he was a military commander like President Washington and fought for his nation’s freedom.
Morelos Defeat • In 1815 Morelos was captured and executed by the Spanish Army. He is considered a hero to many Mexican people today.
Independence • Mexico gained their independence in the year of 1821 “ Treaty of Cordoba”. • Without these two men’s contributions to the revolution Mexico would not have been independent.
