  3. Patents United States Patent 7,619,522 Geissler November 17, 2009 • Radio frequency animal tracking system Abstract • The invention is directed to an improved RFID system. The system provides a transponder that can communicate over at least two different frequencies so that the real time performance of the transponder can be improved without losing backwards compatibility. The system provides an improved apparatus and method that allows the end user to customize and program identification tags. The system also provides an ear tag, which may be in button form, for use on livestock with superior durability and overall performance in the field.

August 1, 2000 • Premise identification system Abstract • An animal tracing system having a parasitic premise information panel for attachment to the stud of an ear tag for use in determining the history and origins of an animal after the animal has been slaughtered, the premise information panel contains a bar code and a numeric code to reveal an animal's history and origin, the panel having sufficient strength to remain attached to the identification panel in day-to-day wear but of sufficient weakness so that a user can remove the premise information panel from the animal ear tag without removing the ear tag from the animal carcass and, along with a blood sample, store the panel therewith until a later date, at which time the premise identification information can be referred to a blood test reveals that the animal has a disease. The tainted carcass can be quickly identified by cross-referencing the premise information panel to the ear tag remaining on the carcass.

The system provides a tag having a power management unit that selectively powers a transmission unit to transmit at least a first signal having a first frequency. The tag can be configured to transmit a second signal having a second frequency as well. The power management unit selectively powers the transmission unit based on the level of power stored in the tag, a duty cycle associated with the tag, or a combination of the two.

The present invention relates to a printing system for animal tags, and methods employing the system. The system includes a printer and processor. The processor is configured to direct printing by the inkjet printer on an animal tag of a government identifier and producer specified indicia upon demand by the producer. The printer is configured for durable printing on an animal tag.

In particular, certain embodiments of the present invention relate to a system for tracking and locating a person, an animal or an object three-dimensionally having at least one remote localization and sensing device, each device having a processing unit for calculating location coordinates; an information storage device for storing directional, distance, physiological and identification data; at least one sensor for providing sensor data; an accelerometer for providing speed and distance data; a magnetic flux gate sensor for providing directional data; and a transceiver for communicating location and sensor data to an ASP. The present invention also relates to various applications and systems utilizing the capabilities of such a device.
