  1. Here’s How Coffee Can Dramatically Improve Your Workplace Teal Cooper Co-Founder of VendiBean Coffee. You can’t live without it. It’s a well known fact that the reason people drink coffee is because they believe it gives their mind the ‘kick’ it needs to get started. When you drink coffee, you feel more alert, more positive and ready to take on the day’s work. What I’ve said till now isn’t mere speculation. It’s fact. Coffee puts the human mind in a better mood. And a happy, energized mind gets more done. Wouldn’t you want your whole workplace to feel like that? Imagine the output your team can give you if you energize them with a cup of fresh joe every morning… “We want to do a lot of stuff; we're not in great shape. We didn't get a good night's sleep. We're a little depressed. Coffee solves all these problems in one delightful little cup.”- Jerry Seinfeld In this article, we’ll talk about two main things: a) How coffee leads to a more productivity b) How productivity leads to better company performance The goal of this article is to establish the fact with the support of proven research that yes, more coffee in your company does equal to more money made. Does Coffee Really Work? It wasn’t humans who first discovered coffee. Allegedly, it were goats who discovered it, and as usual, humans took credit for it like everything else... According to legend, an Ethiopian shepherd named Kaldi saw that his goats started ‘dancing’ when they ate a strange berry from trees. And by seeing the goats

  2. reaction, Kaldi himself ate the coffee bean and took it to an Islamic Monk after liking its taste. And there, coffee was discovered. The reason why goats dance and humans become more productive after drinking coffee is this: Your brain has something called ‘adenosine’ and it only connects with adenosine receptors. As more and more receptors connect, dopamine decreases and we become ‘tired’. This is the main reason we feel drowsiness. But when caffeine enters the system, it attaches itself to the adenosine before the adenosine can connect with its other receptors. And when caffeine connects, it releases adrenaline in our brains. In this way, we feel more alert, happier and overall better when we drink a cup of coffee. Now that we know this, let’s take a look at how this effect of coffee helps improve productivity in the workplace. 3 Effects Coffee Has On You and Your Coworkers Enough theories and myths, let’s look at a few research-backed reasons why your workplace should have access to high quality coffee… 1. Coffee Increase Learning Ability A study by PLOS journal found out that coffee increases a person's ability to understand and memorize things. More specifically, 2 cups of coffee a day (approx. 200 mg of caffeine) will help you understand words and phrases faster and improve your short term memory. What this means is your coworkers will be able to understand new materials and more effectively. So, if you want yourself and your employees to learn new things faster, understand technical content and paperwork more effectively and improve memory, coffee can help you with that.

  3. 2. Coffee Reduces Sleep-Related Stress There are times when your coworkers might not get their desired amount of sleep - and yet have to reach work early on time. This lack of sleep can lead to sleep deprivation which may result in low productivity, bad moods and even accidents that may give your company a loss. And no matter what people say, when they feel tired and sleepy, they give in crappy work. Coffee reduces these negative effects of sleep deprivation. A study inside this NPR articleclaims that little doses of caffeine (100-250 mg) leads to better moods and high alertness in people. What this means is if you want to prevent your employees from making costly mistakes because they didn’t get a good night’s sleep, having a coffee machine your employees enjoy in your office is a good idea. 3. Coffee Protects The Brain and Lungs From Damage The workplace is a stressful environment. Your deadline is nearly there, payday isn’t coming soon enough, you just had a big argument with your coworker. All this leads to more and more stress. For this reason, both our brains and lungs don’t function properly. Anxiety reduces our ability to breath properly. Also, stress reduces our cognitive functionality, all of which can be seriously harmful for the workplace. Coffee is an extremely effective remedy for this problem. It has certain oils and chemicals which help protect the brain and improve oxygen inflow, all which elevate the mood of the drinker. What do you get? Happier and better performing coworkers. Why Should You Care About The Positive Effects of Coffee?

  4. While it’s good for you to think about your coworkers health, your realities may be different. After all, you’re running a business. As such, you need to justify whether providing high-quality coffee in the workplace is worth it or not. Will it give you the ROI you expect? Does the positive effects of coffee on your coworkers somehow improve your business? Yes. Yes, it does. By now, we’ve established the fact that coffee: a) Improves your coworkers’ ability to learn and understand things faster. b) Keeps your coworkers alert even if they didn’t have a good night’s sleep. c) Protects their brain and lungs from the effects of stress and anxiety. Here’s are two reasons why this matters: Unhappy employees take more absent leaves: If you’re employees have nothing to improve their moods and reduce their stress levels, there are more likely to be absent. This can reduce productivity, delay important work and cause your company losses in both time and money. Coffee, as we discussed, improves moods and is a great stress reliever.  Engaged employees increase profits: Coffee makes your workplace culture more friendly and positive. This leads to happier employees. And the more engaged, happy and productive your employees are, the more your company will earn. According to a report by analytics firm, Gallup: “Companies with highly engaged workforces outperform their peers by 147% in earnings per share.”  With this in mind, you can definitely be sure that having high-quality coffee in your workplace is bound to benefit you, your coworkers and your business’ bottomline. “Science may never come up with a better office communication system than the coffee break.”- Earl Wilson
