Environmental and Ethical Analysis Team 3 Spencer Julian
Environmental Impacts- Concerns • Manufacture • PCB, drivers, microcontroller, etc. require environmentally unfriendly materials • Acrylic is derived from fossil fuels • No major environmental impact during use • Disposal • PCB, electronics, etc. require proper disposal • Acrylic is recyclable, but not biodegradable • Wood is biodegradable • Magnets require proper disposal
Environmental Impacts - Resolutions • Manufacture • Reuse or reduce use of hazardous materials where possible • Use recycled plastic as much as possible • Disposal • Dispose through Electronics Recycler • Recycle Acrylic • Contain magnets in metallic box
Ethical Impacts - Concerns • Safety • Flashing LEDs • Magnets and small parts • Electric shock • Wireless Security • Runs an unsecured wireless network • Cannot take to market • So fun, nobody goes outside anymore
Ethical Impacts - Resolutions • Safety labels on device and user manual warnings • Metal plate to store magnets • Epilepsy warning, Choking hazard, Possibility of Electric Shock • Allow WPA encryption on pi • Still not perfect, but less concerning • Warn about sending sensitive data through connection • Do not sell on market • Open source • Sell to Mayfair Games or Kosmos • User manual warning to take breaks every few hours
