NYU uses both “conservation” and “efficiency” “Conservation”: avoiding using energy Thermostat setpoints: $500,000/degree F temp. raised Computer power management & “Phantom Loads”: $750,000/year on turned-off devices Energy: Conservation vs. efficiency • “Efficiency”: doing the same thing with less energy • CFL replacements save over $100/bulb installed, with same light output
