Transitional jobs offer temporary, subsidized employment to people having a difficult time finding and keeping a job
Transitional jobs are performed in a more supportive environment than typically available in unsubsidized employment
Participants receive support from Career Advisors and Work Partners on a consistent basis
Participants have access to needed supportive services
3. Who Can Benefit? People with limited or no recent work experience
People needing skills development – hard (light clerical) and soft (communication, organizing life around work)
People with low education attainment – 36% HS Diploma, 6-7th Grade Reading and Math Level
Employers who need pre-screened, trained entry-level workers backed up by support of team and organization dedicated to employee success
4. Program Design Transitional jobs programs combine:
Orientation – Assessment (Qualitative and Quantitative), Personal Goal Setting, Job Skills, Interviews
Paid work for 20 to 35 hours per week in public, non-profit, for-profit, or social enterprises with Work Partners
Intensive case management via Career Advisors
Skill development activities (Job Readiness and Professional Development)
Access to other needed services (Childcare, Transportation, Housing, Legal, Public Benefits, Healthcare)
Duration of 6 - 12 months (including retention)
Job Development and Placement
Emphasis on Job Retention
5. National Performance Statistics Program duration: 3 to 9 months
Average length of stay: 4 to 5 months
Program completion: 50 – 85%
Job Placement
Completers: 86 – 94%
Total enrollment: 50 – 70%
Job Retention: 26 – 72% at 6 months
Wage at placement: >$7.50
Benefit Rate – 50 – 65%
Annual Program Cost per Participant: $4,800 to $12,000 (includes participant wages)
