Welcome! If you are a student and watching this presentation, that’s probably because you have received an accommodation titled: “Peer or Instructor lecture notes” During this presentation, you will learn what that means and the process to follow to use the accommodation inside and outside of the classroom.
What are Peer or Instructor Lecture Notes? • Students will receive class lecture notes through a volunteer notetaker. Notes will come from a classmate, T.A., or Professor. • Peer notetakers are asked to take notes during lecture and submit them at a minimum of once a week to A.R. You, the student, can decide if you prefer electronic or paper notes. • If a peer notetaker is unavailable, A.R. staff will contact the professor to see if they have notes available to share.
LiveScribeSmartpen • Students are also eligible to receive a SmartPen, which is an electronic recording device that looks like a pen and allows students to both take notes and record the lecture with ONE device! • The SmartPen is great for added independence and self-reliance. Plus, • you can play it back as many times • as you need to. • **You can choose a SmartPen OR a peer notetaker**
Notetaker Request Process • Fill out the ORANGE “Notes Information Sheet” in A.R. • You received this paper with the student copy of your Memos. Filling this out will let us know who is getting notes. Only include the classes that you want notes for. This should be done EVERYsemester • 2. Give your instructor the YELLOW “Notetaker Information sheet” • This form gives professors the information they need to request a peer volunteer notetaker in class. They will detach the bottom half for the notetaker to bring to A.R.
What do I do next? • If you have chosen to have your notes printed, you should check in with A.R. to see if any notes have been delivered. • If you prefer to have your notes e-mailed, you will receive your notes as soon as the notetaker brings them in. • This is why the ORANGE FORM is so important- if you don’t fill it out, we won’t know the notes are for YOU!!
Remember… • A.R. won’t know if problems or issues arise unless you let us know. If you are having difficulty getting your notes or they are poor quality, please let us know as soon possible so that we can look into it. • We are here to support you!
If you have any questions regarding notetaking, please contact Accessibility Resources at (716) 645-2608 stu-accessibility@buffalo.edu Thank you!
