Introduction • Equipments are one of the essential infrastructure elements for the delivery of health services • It is a major contributors, along with drugs, facilities, manpower and other devices, for the rapid progress of healthcare • Equipment has not received proper attention in terms of planning, incorporation and management
Rational • 25% to 50% of all health equipment are not in use for one reason or another • Root causes of the equipment idleness are: • lack of funds, especially for covering recurrent costs • Improper management • Lack of established policies and procedures for planning, acquisition, utilization and maintenance of health equipment
Aim of the study • Strengthening the on going system of planning, acquisition and maintenance of the medical equipment for a comprehensive and more effective management at CHCs of Haryana
Objective • To assess the working order and utilization of various equipment in different divisions of CHCs • To determine the possible reasons for idleness of the equipment • To recommend strategy to plan/allocate equipments and necessary support for utmostutilization and service delivery
Methodology • The study is a facility based quantitative research • All the CHCs of Haryana are covering in the study • This is an independent process through collection of data from all the CHCs in the structured format • Data collection format developed by using the IPHS standards for CHCs • List of equipments is obtained from standards • Pre testing of the tool has been done
Expected Outcome • The study will provide information on idle equipments, operational problems, and identify the gaps in the equipment management process • It will suggest necessary corrections for effective utilization and management of equipments to improve delivery of health services at the CHC
Consistency of data received so far • With out Format 1 and 2 there is very limited use of the tool. Hence must be filled • Out of CHC format 1 not filled in =……CHCs, format 2 not filled in =…….CHCs • Out of CHC format 2 not filled in =……CHCs, format 2 not filled in =…….CHCs
Example • Best filled example: hyperlink • Inconsistent data: hyperlink • No of zeros in the formats: hyperlink
Next Planning for data Collection • Bio Medical engineer has to visit the CHC physically • With in next four days • Continue data sending everyday • Deadline for submission of Report: 8th Mar 2013: 5.00PM
Next Planning for data Collection……Contd. • Format 1 and 2 are necessary • Reason for idleness of any equipment must be mentioned. (if any) • Report what you see
