IATA’s General Objectives • To promote Operating and airport Safety & Security • Contribute with the air industry to achieve adequate profits levels • Provide the industry with High-quality products and services • Identify and articulate common industry positions • Ensure the healthy and sustainable development of the industry

  5. Contribution from the Air Transportation to the World Economy • In the year 2000 the revenue was more than US$ 313 trillions • more than 30,5 million people around the world were employed: Directly: 4,3 millions Indirectly: 9,3 millions Induced: 16,9 millions

  10. IATA’s View on Security Matters • The new security measures must be as follows: • Security must be mainly financed by States • Be in harmony with international standars • Efficient, operationally managedand seeking to improve security • In coordination among the industry members

  12. Security Harmonization • Constitution of the Global Action Group in Aeronautics Security (GASAG) • Preparation of the document on the IATA/GASAG view on security matters

Harmonisation - Europe • Direct link with the European Commission on Civil Aviation, European Union and the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) • Document No. 30 on Security in the European Civil Aviation Commission • Projects on standards in the European Union • Audit harmonisation is currently required

  15. Harmonisation - USA • IATA and the FAA have met on a regular basis to discuss several important issues • The IATA General Director, Mr. Pierre Jeanniot met with the USA Transport Department
