  2. Week 8 • Research into Greenstone and use of C++ • Tools to be used: • SourceForge • Google Wave • SVN • 3 main parts: • Image Acquisition • Data Import • Digital Library Communication

  3. 1. Image Acquisition • Decided to use WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) as initial solution • Supports a variety of devices • Mobile Phones • Digital Cameras • Storage Cards (XD, SD, etc.) • Supported in Windows XP and later (good support) • Future intention to extend to multiple platforms using another solution (to be investigated)

  4. 2. Data Import • Importation into digital library using built-in scripts (written in Perl) • 3 main stages • Make a collection • Import images • Build collection

  5. 3. Digital Library Communication Interrogate folder structure to determine changed data since last ‘visit’ Import new data into library – simple file copying in essence Store a list of addresses of other libraries to access them easily Reflect a brick-and-mortar library

  6. Week 9 • Generate test programs to demonstrate capabilities of the software – provide a basis for next stages of development • Develop programs for the following first: • WIA • Running Greenstone scripts – importing into library • Then develop library-to-library communication component (after domain more greatly understood)
