Dutch Delegation in Japan Including PM Balkenende and Minister Plasterk This year we celebrate 400 years of cooperation between The Netherlands and Japan. For 200 years The Netherlands was the only western trading partner for Japan.
Keio University History The Keio University was founded in 1858 as a school for Dutch Languages by Fukuzawa. It became Japanese first University in 1890. (Keio means literally, King of the Capital)
System Design and Management Since this summer 3 of our students are studying at the graduate school of System Design and Management. Also 3 Japanese students are studying at TPM on this moment. Derk Busser Annemarijn Jelsma Frank Pijnenborg

Welcome by IMES Experiment Minister Plasterk was welcomed by members of the IMES team (Indoor Messaging System). This kind of GPS system led him towards the Signing Ceremony.
Welcome Signing Ceremony After Mr. Plasterk succeeded in his IMES quest the Japanese welcomed the Dutch delegation
Minister Plasterk Made a short speech Plasterk compared the Japanese extremely developed technologies with Van Leeuwenhoek’s microscope. They were solutions for non-existing problems. Later on they appeared to become useful tools. “You Japanese have gold in your hands.”

Quick Student Photo Session In his tight schedule our Minister of Education had only 1 minute time to meet the students, just enough for a handshake and a picture. Though we had many recommendations for our Dutch educational system! But we have his phone-number!
Workshops Delft/Keio Professors • In the afternoon the professors were divided in four research workshops, as: • Sustainable Manufacturing and Intelligent Global Transport • Global Integrated Risk Assessment: Excellence for Managing Safety and Sustainability in Earth System Governance • Intelligent Global Infrastructures Dispersed Service Production Delivery
Today in Japan Honorary doctorate JP Balkenende The Ceremony was held in the Mita Campus of Keio University, located near Tokyo Tower.
Acceptance speech of Balkenende Prime Minister Balkenende was proud to accept the honorary doctorate of System Design and Management. He presented a sharp speech where he mentioned the wonderful relation between our countries, but he mentioned also the terrible circumstances during the WWII.
Reception at Keio University At the reception there were some exchange of presents between PM Balkenende and Keio. Unfortunately he had to leave soon. Pictures of Balkenende and our students are on their way, for now we can only provide you with a group picture of our profs and our exchange students
