Lab Safety – Potassium Dichromate • Toxic • Corrosive • Carcinogenic(causes cancer) • Teratogens Let’s talk about what could happen if chemicals are used improperly…
Toxic Toxic – Causes permanent damage to the body and may lead to immediate or prolonged death.
Corrosive Corrosive – Destroys anything it comes into contact with. May cause chemical burns or loss of eyes, limbs, etc. if used improperly. Example: Sulfuric Acid and a sponge
Carcinogenic Carcinogenic – Causes DNA damage and may result in cancer.
Cancer Cancer – Uncontrolled cell division that usually ends in death (often prolonged).
Teratogens Teratogen– Causes birth defects.
How to Stay Safe in our Classroom Do not consume any food or drink. Stay in your seats at all times unless directed. Do not touch anything that doesn’t belong to you. Follow directions.
