  7. SEARCH TIPS & TRICKS • Synonyms – use the tilda ~ • Combine with truncation • Boolean operators in simple search • Simple search vs Advanced Search • Advanced = more refined searching • Specify index/field for search terms • Select groupings for search terms • More limiting options

  23. The Tyranny of Distance • Communication & Training • Half–day sessions provided at SLWA (free) • Metropolitan libraries- well resourced and able to send qualified staff • Regional libraries • Regularly visit Perth and can attend training • Country & remote • There’s the challenge!

  24. Content • Online links - fantastic • Not all SWLA holdings on LA • Project to identify these collections • Perception that WA may not hold a particular item • Looking locally first • Obtaining items not in WA libraries

  26. ILL’s in the West • Delivery of ILL – free core service • DDO – Document Delivery Online • LIDDAS – with WA University libraries • DDO replaced with VDX(now OCLC/PICA) • Implemented in six months - with ‘Go Live” March 2006 • SLWA is an ISO library - LADD
