Ignatian Leadership at Saint Joseph’s University Ignatian leadership is a transformational process whereby an individual or group assists another individual or group in discerning God’s will in a specific context, and facilitates its implementation, always seeking the magis. An Ignatian leader, regardless of religious affiliation, understands and appreciates the rich gifts of the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius Loyola and strives to: • Be a Contemplative in Action - discerning[1] God’s will, always seeking the ‘magis’[2] • Facilitate a shared, hopeful vision through the process of Ignatian communal discernment[3] • Grow in self-knowledge and ‘Ignatian indifference’[4] through a daily ‘Examen’[5] • Exemplify ‘humbled excellence’ • Have an honest love for those he/she leads and serves • Realize and engage with the challenges of the world and actively works to address them
