  2. Why did he start his raid? • His plan was to help the slaves • He wanted to arm the slaves with weapons • John Raid and his men stole the weapons

Background Information • John Brown moved about the country over his fifty years • Settled: Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New York • Gained over 20 children • Worked as a : farmer, wool merchant, and land speculator (Someone who buys land just to sell it off at a higher price and not for any other reason ) • Gave the “ Call to Rebellion” • He gave land to fugitive slaves • Participated in the Underground Railroad
