What is a Team? Students at ACRMS are on academic teams. That means most students will travel with the same group for all of the core classes. When we have a conference, you will meet with all of your child’s teachers and any other significant adults in your child’s school life. Academic teams benefit the child, parent and teacher!
The Schedule Students will get their schedules today. Spanish will be offered only first semester. The class is six weeks long and is NOT required for 7th grade Spanish. Students will rotate through all of the elective classes, called “Discovery,” unless they are in band. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask your child’s homeroom teacher.
A Few Notes about the Schedule This year BCS is offering free breakfast for all students. We will walk students to all of their classes on the first day of school. This year, students will have Discovery (elective) classes during fourth block (11:45-1:20).
P.E. Don’t worry about dressing out on the first day. P.E. teachers will inform students when they need to start dressing out. Uniforms will be required and will be sold today and for the next few weeks for $20.
The Agenda Your child will use his or her agenda each day; please check it each night. The agenda is a place where we will communicate with you often. The agenda is also used as a hall pass, so it will need to be taken everywhere students go. Buy one today for $5.00.
6th Grade Cell Phone and Electronics Policy Students may have cell phones or electronics in their lockers, but we cannot be responsible if they are lost or stolen. If a teacher sees or hears an electronic device, we have the right to take them and turn them in to the office for a parent to pick up (school policy).
Lockers Locker assignments will be given tomorrow. This is to ease traffic in the hallway today . We will need parent volunteers to help students with opening lockers. Sign up sheets will be in homerooms. Students will have LOTS of time to work on lockers, don’t worry!
Cafeteria Cafeteria numbers are the same as in elementary school. Parents can set a snack limit or deposit money on their child’s account online. https://www.lunchprepay.com Cafeteria will NOT be open today to put money in accounts. Please send money tomorrow.
Rocket Reading Rocket Reading is called “Independent Study” on the schedule. 6th grade participates in Rocket Reading, which is a 25 minute time in which students can read a book of their choosing. Students will also conference with their teacher and complete other reading related activities during this time. Rocket Reading is a pass/fail class.
The First Day of School Car rider drop off is in front of the gym, NOT in front of the stairs to the media center or in the back lot. All 6th graders should report to the gym. We will be there to guide kids to the door and walk them to homeroom. We will also walk students to buses at the end of the day for the first 3 days of school. 6th grade first load bus riders will dismiss early (10 minutes) on the first days of school to ensure they all make it to the right bus.

Successful middle school students have parents who assist the student in gaining independence through small stumbles along the way, but realize that students will need support when they begin to “fall.” It’s appropriate for students to make mistakes as long as they learn from them. Thank you parents for being here for the first important event of the 2012-2013 school year!
