Spread of Advent wreath • By the 16th century, advent wreaths were widely used by Catholics and Protestants in Germany. • Used to represent the coming of Christ. • It gradually spread across the world.
Parts of Advent Wreath • Four Candles: three purple candles and a pink candle. • There is also a middle candle (usually white) that is sometimes lit on Christmas day. • Each candle represents a week closer to the coming of Christ. • Pink candle represents joy.
Religious symbols • Evergreens represent everlasting life. • Circle represents God’s continual infinite love. • Cycle of the year. • Light of Christ.
