Transcendentalism By Alex Dahl, Hunter Hannan, Nathan Emane, Evan Zucker
“Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string” • Believe yourself and do what you think is right. Listen to what you think, believe it, and do it.
“Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist” • You must not follow the normal and accepted way blindly. You must be yourself. Then you will truly be living your life.
“With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do” • Do not do something over and over again. Try new things and experiment.
“Absolve you to yourself, and you shall have the suffrage of the world” • People will acknowledge and support you if they see you have no guilt or blame. They will like how highly you carry yourself and look up to it.
“To be great is to be misunderstood” • To be smart you must stand alone and above the rest, and those that you surpass won’t fully understand what you say or why you are saying it.
“We have the Saint Vitus’ dance, and cannot possibly keep our heads still” • Humans can’t stay still. We live life in a hurry and waste time. We are always thinking of what comes next and what to do.
“We are determined to be starve before we are hungry” • We claim ourselves to have many needs when we could live just as good without that. We have become very materialistic.
“Let us spend one day deliberately as nature, and not be thrown of the track by every nutshell and mosquito wing that falls on the rail.” • Live life thoughtfully and carefree. Do not stress and worry about every problem that presents itself.
“The intellect is a cleaver; it discerns and rifts its way into the secrets of things” • You can learn anything by study and reading. Your intelligence is never limited.
“I do not wish to be any more busy with my hands than is necessary” • Do not get yourself caught up with any extra work. It is unnecessary and pointless.
