I. Summary of Ezekiel 38 and 39 • a. Gog, in the land of Magog, prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, will invade the restored land of Israel from the far distant northern land by the appointment of God in the last times, and with a powerful army of numerous nations Ezek 38:1-9 • b. Their intention is to plunder Israel, which is dwelling in security, that the Lord may sanctify Himself upon him before all the world vv. 10-16
I. Summary of Ezekiel 38 and 39 • c. When Gog attacks Israel, he is to be destroyed by a wrathful judgment from the Lord, that the nations may know that God is the Lord vv. 17-23 • d. On the mountains of Israel, Gog with all his host and nations succumbs to the judgment of God Ezek 39:1-8
I. Summary of Ezekiel 38 and 39 • e. The inhabitants of Israel will spend seven years in burning the weapons of the fallen foe, and seven months in burying the corpses in a valley, which will receive its name from this, so as to purify the land 39: 9-16 • f. In the meantime all the birds and wild beasts will satiate themselves with the flesh and blood of the fallen 39: 17-20

Then, will all the nations as well as Israel know that it was on account of its sins that the Lord formerly gave up Israel into the power of the heathen, but that now He will no more forsake His redeemed people, because He has poured out His Spirit upon it. 39: 21-29
II. Who Are The Players? • a. Most students of Bible prophecy are convinced that Ezek 38:2 is a reference to the land of Russia: • "Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him."
II. Who Are The Players? • b. In Gen 10, the generations of Noah are listed. Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth (Gen 10:1). Among the sons of Japheth are mentioned "Magog ... Tubal, and Meshech" (Gen 10:2).

Ezekiel's roster of nations for the Gog-Magog war continues to align perfectly for the first time in history. • "Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee."

II. Who Are The Players? • d. GOGEzekiel begins by making the startling announcement that the Lord himself is against the Prince of Gog. Gog is identified as the chief prince of Meschech and Tubal. • e. It can be debated as to whether or not this “prince” is a man, or perhaps is a fallen angel, or ruler of darkness under the authority of Satan that manipulates the affairs of the geographical region around Magog.
II. Who Are The Players? • f. Mesheck, like the rest of Ezekiel’s Gog invasion alliance members were descendants of Japheth. The term Mesheck is translated as Moschi or Moschoi, which translates as Moscow. • g. Josephus also identifies the descendents of Meshech as dwelling in Eastern Turkey.

Tubal is also handed down from the table of nations in Genesis chapter 10, and refers to a northern city-state that traded in goods and developed military alliances with the ancient cities of Tyre and Tarshish. • i. Tubal is probably representative of the peoples that lived in the Cappadocian region north and east of the modern state of Turkey.
II. Who Are The Players? • j. Magog is referred to by the Jewish historian Josephus who identified them as the Scythians, or the people north of the Caucasus Mountains. The Scythians are the ancestors of modern Russia. • k. Magog is also a comprehensive term which means "the northern barbarians." The Moslems referred to Gog and Magog as Vadjudj wa madjudj in the Koran.
II. Who Are The Players? • l. Persia = Iran; Ethiopia = Sudan; • Gomer = Russia and Ukraine; • Togarmah = Turks and Armenia; • Libya = West of Egypt
III. What Current Events Are Leading Us To Ezekiel 38- 39? • a. During the Cold War, when Iran became independent of America, it was forced to become more dependent on Moscow and, more recently, on the European Union in order to oppose the United States. • b. Several European Union countries began renewing economic ties with Iran in the late 1990’s.

Iran signed a series of economic and military cooperation agreements with Russia, which made Russia the primary supplier of aircraft for Iran's air force, and the supplier of submarines for the Iranian navy. • d. 1991 Russia-Teheran mutual defense pact and explains why Russia is currently assisting Iran in the development of nuclear weapons.
III. What Current Events Are Leading Us To Ezekiel 38- 39? • e. In 2003, Iran made a bargain with Russia to supply Russia with oil and sea-access in return for Russia’s pledge to counter US strategic moves in the Gulf region, and to assist in the defense capabilities of Iran.
III. What Current Events Are Leading Us To Ezekiel 38- 39? • f. Despite US concerns, Russia also began construction of a nuclear power reactor in southern Iran, (coming on line in 2007) and they have agreed to set up joint companies to explore, produce and ship Caspian Sea oil.
IV. Why Are They Attacking? • a. Russia, China, and the EU are all anticipating the day when the US loses its status as the world’s status in geo-politics, and is destabilized internally to such an extent that it cannot use its great military might.

They all fully realize that the Middle East terrorist campaign of Holy Jihad is a war to bring down the United States, and thus they are waiting to see how the US fares in defending itself in the war on terror. • c. Ezekiel’s scenario in chapters 38-39 is likely to be an event that comes after afatal blow is struck against the United States, greatly diminishing the capabilities of the US in the world.
IV. Why Are They Attacking? • d. With the US out of the picture, Russia sees that if it does nothing, the EU will control the Mid-east oil reserves and recognizes the opportunity to fill the power vacuum left by the removal of the US.
IV. Why Are They Attacking? • e. Even though Russia has an “evil thought”, we see that God is sovereignly drawing him to the scene. Ez 38:4 • f. Russia is being drawn into the Middle East conflict; forced by its economic need, geo-political ambitions and its competitive drive to outflank the EU for global dominance. Ez 38:10
V. When Will This Happen? • a. There are several events that most likely will precede the invasion of Israel by the northern confederacy. In proper sequence, they are: • 1. The pre-tribulation Rapture of the Church • 2. The coming of Antichrist and the signing of his covenant with Israel Dan 9:27

V. When Will This Happen? • 3. The Jews' belief that their long-awaited Christ is ruling over them, that they are actually living in Kingdom days because of the many apparent fulfilled millennial prophecies. • A. Regathered and restored Jer 30:3; 31:8-9; Ezek 39:25; Amos 9:11

V. When Will This Happen? • B. Peace for Israel • Ps 72:3 The mountains will bring peace to the people, And the little hills, by righteousness. • Isa 9:6 6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. NKJV
V. When Will This Happen? • Isa 66:12-13 For thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, And the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream. Then you shall feed; On her sides shall you be carried, And be dandled on her knees. 13 As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem." NKJV

Pouring out of the Spirit in Israel Ezek 38:28-29then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer. 29 And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,' says the Lord GOD." When Will This Happen? • Ezek 38:28-29then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who sent them into captivity among the nations, but also brought them back to their land, and left none of them captive any longer. 29 And I will not hide My face from them anymore; for I shall have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel,' says the Lord GOD."
