What is Social Watch? • Global movement of NGOs • Monitors commitments made by Gov’ts (Basic mandate Mainstream MDGs) Formed in 1995 during a World Summit in Copenhagen Cooperates with UN, the Donor Community, National Agencies and Local Governments on varied development issues
Social Watch Members Social Watch is present in 83 countries Members are mostly National Coalitions In Asia, it is present in 13 Countries
Philippines (SWP) In the Philippines, the social watch network was organized in 1997 SWP Convenors and a Network of Development NGOs CLUSTER NETWORK North & Central Luzon Southern Luzon Central/Western Visayas Central/Southern Mindanao
Social Watch also does monitoring work --- The BCI or the Quality of Life Index Acceptable BCI level to be achieved: East/Central Asia, Pacific - 2030 South Asia - 2047 Sub Saharan Africa - 2108
