5. In Depth Plot Analysis of Strega Nona K-2 Strega Nona is a classic illustrated children’s book. The book combines suspense, action, and conflict to keep its young audience entertained. The conflict develops early in the story when the audience is introduced to the magical powers possessed by the title character, Strega Nona. Strega Nona’s “Magic Pasta Pot” is the vehicle that drives the story’s action and climax. It is still early in the story when Big Anthony is introduced, foreshadowing future conflict. Strega Nona takes in Big Anthony to her home to house him, feed him and pay him in exchange for his work around the house. Person-to-person conflict is imminent early in the story as Big Anthony spies on Strega Nona as she makes her magic pasta. Destined to repeat Strega Nona’s chant, readers are prepared for a future conflict between the character’s Big Anthony and Strega Nona. A lesson to children from story’s plot is to not show off in an attempt to impress people. Big Anthony wanted so badly to impress the town’s people that he told the people of Strega Nona’s special pot. He was not truly concerned with feeding hungry people within his town, but for gaining the popularity and recognition of doing something magical. Big Anthony received the consequences in the end, as he was unable to stop the magical pasta pot from creating pasta. The pasta flooded the town, and Big Anthony was now considered a failure to the townspeople and Strega Nona whom he had disobeyed. This further develops the person-to-person relationship in this plot as Strega Nona teaches Big Anthony and the children reading the book the importance of forgiveness. Strega Nona stops the pasta flooding to save the town and serves Big Anthony a just sentence. Big Anthony must eat the pasta he created as a helpful reminder not to betray a friend who has extended work, food, and shelter to you in an attempt to impress others. Back to Map

Michelangelo was born in Florence, Italy in 1475. He is most widely known as the Sculptor of Modonna and Child, Pieta, and David.
