  2. Atticus Finch Protagonist in the story father of a boy and a girl best lawyer in the state great “shot” with a firearm nice guy kind of quiet

  3. Scout Finch • Narrator of the story • -story is told in flashback fashion as though Scout were still 6 years old. • Scout is a tomboy, loves to read but hates school, • has to dress up as a ham for a school play. • Real name is: Jean Louise Finch

  4. Jem Finch • 12 year old brother of Scout when story begins • Gets his elbow broken late in the story • Very protective of his sister • Loves to play football and wants his dad to play with him on the church team • Enjoys trying to get Boo Radley out of his house • Real name: Jeremy Atticus Finch

  5. Dill Harris Baker • 6 year old boy neighbor boy who hangs out with the Finch family every summer • Claims his father was a railroad engineer • Plans to marry Scout-he proposes to her one day in the yard • Loves to play the Boo Radley game

  6. Calpurnia • She is the African American nanny/housekeeper/cook for the Finch family since Mrs. Finch died when Scout was young. • Loves going to her gospel singing church • Acts more like a stern mother than a housekeeper • Lives in her own home but sometimes stays the night to help out
