PacNOG 1 • Held in June 2005, Fiji • Network startup, routing and multihoming hands-on workshop • 27 network and ISP engineers • 13 Pacific Islands countries
Some of the Key Issues from the Pacific • Satellite • High circuit costs • Latency • Remoteness • Dispersed populations • Skilled workers Churn • Sources of Power in outer islands • Public literacy & education
Needs • Continuous support for transfer of key skills to IP-ISP engineers • Replication of training in region • Develop Interactive DVD-Rom for basic skills training • Exchange/interactions with other groups and experts, Alerts, Threats, etc • Support from partners, friends and advocates for development of IP Skills in the Pacific Islands
Activities • Newly formed group • Mailing lists exchange on alerts, equipment assistance, problems, developments • Discussions of key topics for PACNOG Training • Open to suggestions
