About the unit“Women’s work?” • This unit is about housework and how it is assigned for women to do. It also discusses the difference between who did chores in the past and who does them nowadays. It also implies the idea that men and women should share housework. • The unit introduces a poem, which gives a sarcastic overview of some TV ads in which producers of some cleaning products try to make housework look like an easy and funny job, just to sell their products, while it never is.

Reading one: Housework • Reading one is a poem, by Sheldon Harnick, which discusses some TV commercials about cleaning products in a derisive way. It shows how the advertisers of these ads try to convince the viewers that house work, which is normally hard labor, can be a pleasant and enjoyable task by using these products.
Reading For Main Ideas. Pg. 106 Check (√) the two main ideas in the poem: ___ 1. TV commercials (advertisements on TV) give us good information about which soaps and detergents are best. ___ 2. Men and women should share housework. ___ 3. Children shouldn’t watch TV because there are too many commercials. ___ 4. Housework isn’t really too much fun.
