  2. NAFTA This was one of the most successful trade agreement. That benefited farmers. This agreement benefited the U.S with money. Kosovo Despite the trouble at home. President Clinton had to act as a world leader. In 1999 he led a group of nations and dealt with a crisis in Yugoslavia. The Yugoslavian Republic or Serbia has a region called Kosovo that is habitated mostly by people of alemanian descent, in June 1999 the U.S had to run this country.

  3. End of Apartheid in Africa Apartheid – a system of legal racial segregation in South Africa. At the end of the apartheid Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa from 1994-1999. He was the first South African president. Mandela also received a Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Rwandan Genocide It was a mass killing that killed over 800,000 Rwandans. This mass killing was between April and June 1994.

  4. Battle of Mogadishu This was battle was part of Operation Gothic Serpent. It was fought on October 3rd and 4th in 1993, in Mogadishu Somalia. The U.S. Military attempted to capture officials of Mohamed Farrah.

  5. Rodney King Riots • April 29, 1992 LAPD officers who were videotaped beating Rodney King were acquitted . • The acquittal was followed by 6 days of riots. The National Guard, US Army and Marines were needed to bring an end to the riots • 53 people died and as many as 2,000 injured • About 3,600 fires were set. Total losses range between $800 million and $1 billion

  6. Oklahoma City Bombing The Oklahoma city bombing was an attack on April 19, 1995. The American militia movement sympathizer who detonated an explosive- filled truck parked in front of the building. The Oklahoma blast claimed 186 lives, including 19 children under the age of 6, and injured more than 680 people.

  7. 1993 World Trade Center Bombing In 1993 the World Trade Center bombing occurred on February 26, when a car bomb was detonated below the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. As a result of the explosion, 6 people were killed, and more than 1,000 were injured.

  8. President Clinton’s Impeachment Bill Clinton, president of the United States, was impeached by the House of Representatives on December 19, 1998, and acquitted by the senate on February 12, 1999.

  9. Embassy attacks- Kenya & Tanzania The near-simultaneous bombing attacks on the US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania took place on August 7, 1998. In Nairobi, where the US Embassy was located in a congested downtown area, the attack killed 291 persons and wounded about 5,000. The bombing in Dar es Salaam killed 10 persons and wounded 77.

  10. Rise Of Al Qaeda Al Khifa recruited American Muslims to fight in Afghanistan; some of them would participate in terrorist actions in the United States in the early 1990s and in al Qaeda operations elsewhere, including the 1998 attacks on U.S. embassies in East Africa.

Columbine High School- Shooting • The Columbine High School massacre occurred on Tuesday, April, 20, 1999, at Columbine High School in Colorado, near Denver and Littleton. • Two senior students went on a massacre, killing 12 students and one teacher. They also injured 21 other students directly, and three people were injured while attempting to escape.

  12. Y2K Scare Everyone thought all the computers would crash. People thought that after 1999. the computers would not know what the date was and that all the information in the computers would be lost forever. People were worried about their investments, money, jobs, houses-any loans- good credit. We were going to go back to caveman times- no heat or running water.

  15. Fads &Fashions • Most of the girls show off the belly buttom • Shirts generally come right band or even a few inches above it. • short hair for women • For men it was popular the long thick sideburn.

  16. Technology • 1990- the word wide web becomes an internet protocol • 1991- the digital answering machine • 1993- the Pentium processor • 1996 - web T.V. The most popular technology that people were buying in the 90’s was the computer!

  17. The Sports • 1991-98 (2 three-peats!) Chicago bulls, set an NBA record for regular seasons wins, stand out as the decades greatest team. • Athletes • Michael Jordan • Sammy Sosa • Mark McGwire
