Basel Convention • Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal • BC wasadopted on 22 of March 1989 and itwasenterdintoforce on 5-th May 1992 • Theobjective of the Basel Convention (BC)is to protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects of hazardous wastes.

  4. COP BC • The Conference of the Parties (COP)is the governing body of the BC and is composed of governments of countries that have accepted, ratified or acceded to it. • The COPreviews and evaluates the implementation of the Convention. • ToimplementtheConventionseveralguidlines are adopted

  5. BC E-wasteguidelines • The e-waste guidelines were finally adopted (on the interim basis) at the COP 12 in May 2015 • Differentviewsabouttheguidlines • COP invitesparties and others to use the technical guidelines and to submit comments

  7. Correspondents’ GuidelinesThe Correspondents' Guidelines have been agreed by the waste shipment correspondents of the EU Member States and represent their common understanding of how Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 on shipments of waste should be interpreted. They are not legally binding.

  13. Conclusion • There are quite many guidelines available • Strict regulation at EU level • Stable import-export amounts • Only few illegal traffic cases
