What is a Digital Repository? • A system to store and manage digital instructional resources • Content is • created 1X • stored 1X • used or repurposed times • Facilitates discovery of resources • Users can link to OR download resources • Users can ADD resources and ADD their comments to existing resources.
Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) Grant • The Orange Grove is nationally recognized as a repository leader • The FIPSE grant project is producing a model process to establish and sustain statewide digital repositories –www.oncoreblueprint.org • The Orange Grove received 2007 FACC Excellence in Technology Award
Why is the repository called “The Orange Grove?” • It’s a metaphor for Florida’s tree of knowledge. • Educators can both pick (choose) resources from their repository and • plant resources (contribute them) to the repository
What’s in the repository? Any type of digital content: audio, video, images, instructional resources, “open” textbooks, or administrative documents that are available for educational use
The Basic Searchsearches the repositories for items containing your search term(s).
The Guided Searchallows you to search for items of a specific collection or collections. (e.g., NROC– individual college collections, “open” textbooks)
Adding Comments & Ratings allows you to enter your comments about any Orange Grove resource – and assign a rating to it.
The Power Searchallows you to choose a type of metadata to search with. (e.g., textbooks, lecture, simulation, statewide course numbering system, ERIC)
Saving Searches and Setting Up Feeds • Allows you to quickly repeat searches • Feeds alert you when new items are added that match your search criteria
The Federated Searchallows you to search for items from a variety of sources outside the Orange Grove ( e.g., MERLOT, Intute, University System of GA)
View more details page: • Shows descriptive information • Provides link to share with others outside the repository (copy the URL) • Download (when available) • Allow users to add comments and ratings (Comments tab)
