The most important projects associated with the PT programme • The PT information programme will be focused on • passenger information, and • incident management • The most important national PT R&D and implementation projects will be asked for participating in programme • At the moment, the national PT implementation projects are mainly focused on developing • passenger information and • multimodal trip planning services VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 13
ELMI - Espoo and Länsiväylä real-time passenger information system • In the first implementation stage, ELMI contains • 60 bus lines and about 300 buses fitted with DGPS positioning devices • 10 monitors and 11 display boards used to provide passenger information • The monitors are installed at central places and the display boards at 6 bus stops • In the near future, the system will be enlarged several bus stops in Espoo VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 14
HeLMI - Helsinki Public Transport Signal Priority and Passenger Information • In the pilot stage, HeLMI contains routes of tramline 4 and bus line 23 • The pilot stage equipment is • 20 buses, • 32 trams, • 50 signalised junctions, and • 15 real-time passenger information displays. • In the near future, HeLMI will be enlarged several bus and tramlines in Helsinki VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 15
HeLMI - Effects • The impacts and socio-economic benefits of HeLMI pilot stage has been studied • The study showed that • the travel time has decreased and the regularity and punctuality of service has improved • the information systems were regarded very positively and useful • the traffic signal priorities have decreased the fuel consumption and emissions • the benefit/ cost ratio was calculated to be 3.3 VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 16
PARAS - Tampere public transportation passenger information system • In the autumn 2001, the first stage of PARAS will be introduced • The pilot stage contains • 37 buses • 20 information displays on bus stops • 6 monitors • 11 signalised junctions • By the year 2004, the system will be completed to cover the regional public transport system VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 17
Multimodal trip planning system in Helsinki • In the autumn this year, a multimodal trip planning service will be introduced in Helsinki • the system is an Internet service that can be used to find the best route using various vehicles • origin and destination is selected either text-based search or clicking the map • a choice between a number of optimisation goals can be made • a number of route alternatives is displayed • The system is delivered by a Finnish company VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 18
Other PT telematics projects in Finland • BUSLAN, Standard in-vehicle bus for public transport • SIPTS, Services for intelligent public transport systems • INVETE, In-vehicle terminal for multimodal flexible collective transport services VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 19
external fee vehicle passeng. internal display collection computer counting display etc.. EN13149 vehicle gateway BUSLAN • The BUSLAN -project aims to find and pilot an open, standard bus protocol • The standard bus protocol enables more compatible onboard devices • The standard bus protocol will be piloted in Tampere related to PARAS -project VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 20
SIPTS • The SIPTS project aims to develop a Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) application • The SIPTS concept includes solutions offered by a call centre, computer software to route the DRT orders and vehicles equipped with communication facilities • The SIPTS project is sponsored by the European Commission (TEN-T) • The Finnish parties of the SIPTS Consortium are OY Novacall AB and VTT Automation VIKING Seminar in Copenhagen, Denmark, May 31st, 2001 Lehtonen/ 21
INVETE • The INVETE project aims to develop and demonstrate of a modular, multi-application in-vehicle terminal (IVT) for different transport services (regular public transport, DRT, door-to-door, taxi) • The services will be demonstrated in test sites in Finland and Italy. • The INVETE is sponsored by the European Commission (IST) • The Finnish parties of the INVETE Consortium are VTT Automation, Instrumentointi (device manufacturer) and Mobisoft (software developer).
