International Day of Peace • The United Nations has been celebrating the International Day of Peace for over 25 years. • The Hawaii United Federation of Young Buddhists Associations lobbied for the establishment of a Day of Peace for the State of Hawaii.
Peace Day in Hawaii April 19, 2007, Governor Lingle signed into law a proclamation establishing Sept. 21 as Peace Day in Hawaii.
In support of Peace Day, the Buddhist temple of Honoka`a, Hawaii (Hongwanji Mission) will host a parade. • Sunday, 10 a.m., September 23rd.
We have secured permission for the use of artwork and the words “United Nations” in the title of the parade.
The event will be entitled “The Parade for the United Nations International Day of Peace”
Mission of the Parade The intent is to promote and celebrate the values of peace, compassion, and inter-dependence.
The Vision The Parade will be a quality, performance-oriented event inclusive of the local and global communities, supporting the missions of peace and the values of compassion and inter-dependence.
Participants • Peace, environmental, community service groups • Schools, businesses, charities, churches (all faiths) • Musicians, dancers, performers, artists.
We are seeking dignitary and celebrity participation from around the world. This will add to the prestige of the parade and garner greater news and media coverage in our effort to spread the messages of peace, compassion and interdependence.
What You Can Do to Help We Need Volunteers and Participants In addition to local groups, we are seeking participation from national and international groups.
What You Can Do to Help We Need Funding Businesses and individual donations to help with the costs of: publicity, insurance, permits and legal advertising, website, artwork, posters, and other event production costs.
What You Can Do to Help We need sponsors of floats and participating groups to fund their costs of materials, transport and banners.
What You Can Do to Help We are seeking corporate sponsors of the parade (“presenting sponsors” and / or a “title sponsor”) in order to finance celebrity participation and television broadcasting
What You Can Do to Help We need help with promotion Please share with us your contacts with the press, political and community activist groups, e-mailing lists (which can remain private with you); web site postings, radio / tv connections or ideas for promotion, etc.
