Over two decades of experience working with physical educators, district administrators and IT Coordinators, Joe Gooden is a systems specialist committed to making the transition into successfully employing digital devices for Physical Education teachers to save them time and motivate student activity. The successful implement of activity based technology systems is often requires guidance and support from a tech specialist. Joe’s recent experience includes specializing in App based fitness and health programs that utilizes BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and ANT+ wireless technologies for classroom and gymnasium integration.   2. Basic Setup and Functionality

Shared Sensors • You need to create a set of shared sensors if you are providing or loaning sensors (e.g. heart rate monitors, foot pods, etc.) to participants in your classes. • Each separate class will be using the same sensors from the Shared Sensor box but at different times of the day, hence they are shared.

System Standalone Mode • Heart Zones Bridge can create its own Wi-Fi network and you can connect your iPad to that network directly and receive the ANT+ data • No real-time data transfer to Dropbox • Reports not saved to Dropbox until Wi-Fi connection established • Emails not sent until Wi-Fi connection established Emails not sent • Reduced Battery life on Bridge

  6. System Wi-Fi Mode • Bridge can join an existing Wi-Fi network, such as one that exists in a school • Wi-Fi network you must know the network name and password • Real-time data transfer to Dropbox • Extended range between the connection of Bridge and iPad

Setting up CSV Files • “Teacher / Class-Lists” for small group training or school PE with a fixed roster or same students in each class period • The setup and managed through your Dropbox CSV files • CSV is a “comma separated values” file, look like a garden-variety spreadsheet • Downloading the Dropbox program onto your desktop or laptop makes the process simpler • Two files Classes.csv and Participants.csv are used for setup

  8. Step 1: Set “CSV Edit Mode” Tap on Main menu and then tap on Settings menu. Under Dropbox Sync, change the CSV Edit Mode to Computer

  9. Step 2: Locate files within Dropbox The Classes.csv and Participants.csv files can be found in your Dropbox in the Apps>HeartZones folders

  10. Step 4: Open the Classes.csv file If the first line of the spreadsheet contains the following message “DO NOT EDIT OR SAVE!!! FILE NEEDS TO BE LOCKED BY THE iOS APP FIRST!!!,” you must open the Heart Zones PE app and change the CSV Edit Mode in Dropbox Sync to Computer.

Step 5: Enter Classes information • Enter the User ID, participant first and last names, teacher and class information • The user ID needs to be a unique value, numbers and alphabetic characters are allowed. • The user ID needs to be a unique value, numbers and alphabetic characters are allowed. If the User ID is left blank the Heart Zones PE application will assign unique IDs • The UnitID field should be left blank, as the Heart Zones PE application will automatically assign UnitIDs to each participant Note: If you have this information in another spreadsheet, just copy/paste the column information into the appropriate column in the Participants.csv file.

  12. Step 6: Save Classes.csv file • Save the Classes.csv file • Do not change the file name • It must remain “Classes” as the file name. When the Microsoft Excel message appears “Some features in your workbook might be lost if you save is as a CSV (Comma Delimited). Do you wish to keep that format?”, click Yes.

  13. Step 5: Open the Participants.csv file • If the first line of the spreadsheet contains the following message “DO NOT EDIT OR SAVE!!! FILE NEEDS TO BE LOCKED BY THE iOS APP FIRST!!!,” you must open the Heart Zones PE app and change the CSV Edit Mode in Dropbox Sync to Computer.

Step 8: Enter Participants information • Enter the User ID and other information that is unique to that participant such as, date of birth, gender, height, weight, etc • The UserID field must be unique for each participant and can be a mix of alphabetic and/or numeric characters • If User IDs were used in the Classes.csv the same value must be used in the Participants.csv file. Note: If you leave the Participants.csv file empty, the Heart Zones PE will fill in the following fields with data from the Classes.csv - User ID, First Name, Last Name and DoB (Date of Birth) - The DoB will be filled in with the current (today's) date.

  15. Step 6: Save Participates.csv file • Save the Classes.csv file • Do not change the file name • It must remain “Participates” as the file name. When the Microsoft Excel message appears “Some features in your workbook might be lost if you save is as a CSV (Comma Delimited). Do you wish to keep that format?”, click Yes.

  17. Step 12: Set “CSV Edit Mode • Tap on Main menu and then tap on Settings menu. Under Dropbox Sync, change the CSV Edit Mode to iPad.
