  2. 46th International Kolkata Book Fair inaugurated • Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on 30 January inaugurated the 46th edition of the International Kolkata Book Fair. • The fair is being organised at Boimela Courtyard, Central Park Fair Ground, Karunamayee, Salt Lake Kolkata. • The fair will be open for visitors from January 31 to February 12. • Spain is the focal country for the second time this year.

  3. The United States, United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Japan, France, Cuba, Italy, Australia and many other Latin American countries will be represented at the book fair. Thailand is participating for the first time. • • It is the largest book fair in Asia and the most attended book fair by the people. It is the world's third largest annual collection of books after the Frankfurt Book Fair and the London Book Fair. • • The book fair was started in 1976 on a small scale by the Kolkata Publishers and Booksellers Guild.

Air Marshal AP Singh will be the new Vice Chief of the Air Force • Air Marshal Amarpreet Singh has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of the Air Staff. • • He will replace Air Marshal Sandeep Singh. Air Marshal AP Singh is currently serving as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command, Prayagraj. • Air Marshal AP Singh was commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force on 21 December 1984.

Ministry of Defense becomes the largest buyer of MSME goods in 2022 • Recently, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) informed through a tweet that in 2022, the Ministry of Defense emerged as the largest buyer through MSME sellers. • In 2022, the Ministry of Defense envisages procurement of goods and services worth Rs 16,747 crore from the MSME sector. This was 250% more than the purchases made in 2021. Among the states, Uttar Pradesh procured the maximum. Uttar Pradesh procured goods and services worth Rs 9,642 crore through GeM. •

Announcement of best marching contingents and tableau for 74th Republic Day Parade • The best marching contingents and tableaux for the 74th Republic Day Parade have been announced with Punjab Regiment being awarded the best marching contingent and Uttarakhand for the best tableau. Tableaus from States and Union Territories • Uttarakhand (Manaskhand), • Maharashtra (Sade Tin Shaktipeeth and Nari Shakti) • Uttar Pradesh (Ayodhya Deepotsav) have been selected for best three respectively.

Tableau of Uttarakhand • A tableau based on the theme of wildlife and religious places of the state was displayed by the Uttarakhand government. • In the forefront of the tableau, the Corbett National Park featured deer, reindeer and a variety of birds. • Its centre featured the state animal musk deer, the national bird peacock and the ghoral.

Puma India signs Harmanpreet Kaur as brand ambassador • Footwear manufacturer and designer Puma India has signed Harmanpreet Kaur as its new brand ambassador. • Harmanpreet Kaur will promote the brand's footwear, apparel and accessories including select collections through the brand campaign. • With this deal Harmanpreet Kaur joins the roster of ambassadors like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Kareena Kapoor, Sunil Chhetri, Yuvraj Singh, Anushka Sharma among others.

  14. Madhvendra Singh appointed as the first CEO of Gujarat Maritime Cluster • Madhvendra Singh has been appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Gujarat Maritime Cluster by Gujarat Ports Infrastructure Company Limited.

Madhya Pradesh government announces 'Laadli Bahna' scheme • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the implementation of Ladli Bahna Yojana on the occasion of Narmada Jayanti. • Through this scheme, ₹ 1000 per month will be given to the sisters of poor and middle class families of Madhya Pradesh. • To get the benefit of the scheme, the woman must be a resident of Madhya Pradesh.

Women of all castes of the state – General, Backward, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes will be able to get the benefit of this scheme. • The benefits of the scheme will be given to such sisters who are not income tax payers. • 65% sisters of Madhya Pradesh will be able to get the benefit of this scheme. • Through the scheme, an amount of ₹ 60000 crore will be added to each sister's account by the government in 5 years.

  18. 75th Death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi • On January 30, 2023, India is observing Martyr's Day to pay homage to all the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country. The day is also marked as the death anniversary of the country's 'Bapu', Mahatma Gandhi. • Nathuram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi on the evening of January 30, 1948. 30th January is observed as Martyr’s Day every year in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi and his contributions to the nation. •

PM Modi releases special Rs 75 coin to mark 75 successful years of NCC • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 28 January released a special day cover and a commemorative specially minted coin of Rs 75 denomination on the occasion of 75 successful years of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). • NCC rally was organised on the occasion of 75 years commemoration at Cariappa Maidan, Delhi on 28th January. At the event, PM Modi released a specially minted coin of Rs 75 denomination to commemorate 75 successful years of NCC. •

  23. INDIA won Inaugural Women's U -19 T20 World Cup • In the first edition of the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup, India defeated England by seven wickets to win the tournament. For the first time the Indian women's team has been successful in winning any ICC tournament. Indian player Shweta Sehrawat scored the most runs in the Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup 2023. She scored 292 runs in 6 matches. Maggie Clarke was the top wicket-taker in the tournament with 12 wickets in 5 matches. • • •

  25. Hockey World Cup: Germany beat Belgium 5-4 in shootout to lift World Cup trophy for the third time • Germany has won the Men's Hockey World Title 2023. Germany defeated defending champions Belgium 5-4 in a shootout in the final played at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on 29 January. An overview of the news With this, Germany has won the World Cup three times, first in 2002 and second in 2006. The record of winning the most titles in the Men's Hockey World Cup is recorded in the name of Pakistan, who have won this title four times. • • •

  27. 3rd Annual Orange Festival 2023 • From 24 to 25 January 2023, the third annual Orange Festival 2023 has been organised at Rasoma village in Kohima district of Nagaland. • Presently Rusoma village has about 35,000 orange trees and this enables the two-day Orange Festival of the village to host handicrafts, organic vegetables and fruits, food items, sale of orange saplings, workshops on orange and coffee plantation and "Beti Bachao Beti Padhao" events. Several stalls selling signature campaigns like this were also seen.

Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open 2023 title • Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open title for the 10th time by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 7-6 in the first Grand Slam Australia Open of 2023. • With this victory, Novak Djokovic has equaled Spain's Rafael Nadal's record of winning 22 Grand Slam titles. In addition to 10 Australia Open, Djokovic won the French Open in 2016 and 2021, a total of 7 Wimbledon between 2011, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 while the US Open in 2011, 2015, 2018. •
