US recognizes McMahon Line as international border • The United States has recognized the McMahon Line as the international boundary between Arunachal Pradesh and China in a recently passed bipartisan resolution, calling it an "integral part of India". The resolution also condemned the construction of villages in disputed areas, the publication of maps of cities in Arunachal Pradesh, and the expansion of Beijing's territorial claims on Bhutan. The resolution, titled 'Reaffirmation of Arunachal Pradesh as Indian territory and condemnation of China's provocative activities in South Asia', came after a major clash between the Indian and Chinese forces in Arunachal's Tawang in December last year. • • www.vidyaguru.in / SSC, Bank & Gen. What is the McMahon Line? • India and China share a 3,500 km long border which is disputed. • The line that delineates the boundary between the two countries is called the McMahon Line. • The border of India and China can be divided into three parts.   4. Green national highway corridor project to be implemented in four states • India and the World Bank have signed a loan agreement for the construction of the Green National Highway Corridors Project (GNHCP) in four States. • These four states are Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Agreement has been signed for construction of 781 kilometer green national highway corridor in these states with a line of credit of $500 million. Joint India Singapore Exercise 'Bold Kurukshetra' concludes at Jodhpur • The Singapore Army and Indian Armyparticipated in the 13th edition of Exercise 'Bold Kurukshetra', a bilateral exercise at Jodhpur Military Station, India from 6 to 13 March. • For the first time, both the armies participated in a command post exercise, which included battalion and brigade level planning elements and computer wargaming. • Organized by the Indian Army, soldiers from the 42nd Battalion, Singapore Armored Regiment and the Armored Brigade of the Indian Army participated in the exercise. www.vidyaguru.in / SSC, Bank & Gen. Denmark becomes the first country in the world to import CO2 and store it under the sea • Denmark has launched a project to store carbon dioxide 1,800 metres below the North Sea, making it the first country in the world to bury CO2 imported from another country. • CO2 burial project, where carbon is injected into the site of an old oil field to prevent further warming of the atmosphere. • The project is called "Greensand" and is being led by British chemical Giant Ineos and German oil company Wintershall Dia. • The project aims to store eight million tonnes of CO2 per year by 2030. www.vidyaguru.in / SSC, Bank & Gen. Surekha Yadav becomes Asia's first woman loco pilot to operate Vande Bharat Express • Asia’s first woman loco pilot Surekha Yadav has become the first female to operate the newly-introduced semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express train. • She piloted a semi-high speed train between Solapur station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai on 13 March. The train left Solapur station on March 13 on schedule and reached CSMT five minutes before its scheduled arrival for a journey of over 450 km. Along with this, it was decided to increase the MLA Area Development Fund from Rs.3.75 crore to Rs.5 crore. The cabinet also approved the new solar energy policy of the state. Indonesia's Mount Merapi volcano erupts, covering villages in ash • Indonesia's Mount Merapi, one of the world's most active volcanoes, erupted on March 12, sending smoke and ash spreading over nearby villages. The volcano is located on the island of Java near Yogyakarta, the cultural capital of Indonesia. The ash cloud has reached 9,600 feet above the surface. The area up to seven kilometers from the blast site has been restricted. In 2010 a major eruption of the volcano killed over 300 people.   21. Oscars 2023: RRR's 'Naatu Naatu' wins Best Original Song award • The song 'Naatu Naatu' from the Indian film RRR has won the Oscar in the Best Original Song category at the 95th Oscar Awards. RRR is the first Indian film to be nominated for Academy Awards in the last two decades, while 'Naatu Naatu' was the first Indian song to be nominated for an Oscar. Indian Railways to become Net Zero Carbon Emitter by 2030 • Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav recently said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha that the Indian Railways is working on a mission mode to become the largest green railway in the world and towards becoming a "net zero carbon emitter" by 2030. • Indian Railways has taken several initiatives to reduce carbon emissions which include the use of energy efficient technologies. • Indian Railways is starting production of three phase electric locomotives with regenerative features, use of Head on Generation (HOG) technology, use of LED lights in buildings and coaches, use of star rated equipment. www.vidyaguru.in / SSC, Bank & Gen.
