Schedule Changes • Students must submit a completed schedule change form within the first five days of class Schedule changes can be made after set deadlines only for high priority reasons such as for medical purposes or for urgent graduation requirements. All changes must be made through your counselor and approved by parents or guardians.
Pass for credit • 1. A student may select an elective class or classes of four-point value to take on a pass for credit basis. This means the student will receive credit towards graduation for the class; however, the records will show a "P" for pass which is not averaged, and has no effect on the grade point average. This can be exercised only by students taking a minimum of six classes, with the periods filled for both semesters. • Notify the Guidance Office within the first two weeks...
Pass for credit (2) • If a student falls below a "B", then the "C", "D", or "F" will be issued on the report card for the records, as would have normally been done. The grade will then figure into the grade point average. • A student may choose to take his/her grade instead of "P" for pass at any time before the end of the class. This will be done by notifying the guidance counselor in writing.
Pass for credit (3) • After the first two weeks of the classes involved, the student may not change the class for which he/she wishes to use the Pass-for-Credit Option.. • Freshmen and sophomores may only apply for a total of one credit per school year. Juniors and seniors are unlimited in the number of classes they may use for Pass for Credit from the list.

We take dress code very seriously! skirt/shorts – length Must be within the length of a dollar bill from the middle of the kneecap (top of kneecap if you are wearing tights underneath) low cut tops Must be within the width of a dollar bill from the collarbone. There can be no visible cleavage. a t-shirt or sweats may be issued to violators for low cut tops or short skirts to allow a student to attend class – otherwise the student will be held in ISS for the day or until a change of clothes is brought in. --No Hats or hoods up during school unless it is approved on a spirit day. Facial Piercings • Policy is very simple. • Body piercing (other than permissible types of ear piercing) and displaying jewelry in areas such as the nose, eyebrows, lips and tongue are not permitted.
Bottom line for Dress code issues • safety • distracting • within norms accepted by community • final discretion concerning interpretation is an administrative decision.
Electronic Device Usage • We want you to use your personal electronic devices in a responsible manner. If your use of an electronic device disrupts the educational process it will be confiscated and you will have disciplinary consequences. • If your personal electronic device distracts a bus driver it will be confiscated and you will have disciplinary action. • You may speak on your phone during the school day without permission.
Bring Your Own Device • If you would like to utilize a personal laptop, notebook or other similar device for academic purposes you must fill out the appropriate form available in the office. • We are attempting to reach a 1:1 environment by a combination of devices in the classroom and BYOD.
Lockers • All lockers have locks to provide a secure area for personal belongings. If a lock doesn’t work it is the students responsibility to let us know and it will be repaired. • Have noted issues with students abusing lockers when opening them. This will not be tolerated. • If requested by parent, lock will be disabled.
Late to class / Late to school • Being on time is important – four minute passing time is more then enough. Plan accordingly if you can’t get to locker between classes. Three per quarter – 4+ you receive a demerit and associated disciplinary action. • Being late to school continues to be an issue for a minority of the students. Three per quarter without disciplinary action – 4+ you receive a demerit and associated disciplinary action.

Excused Absence • Absences from school that will be “excused” are those provided for by law with the following conditions: • - A phone call from a parent or guardian should be made the morning of absence and/or a note from a parent or guardian must be presented to the school office on the day of return.
Tardy • TARDIES – Students arriving between 7:20AM and 8:20 AM. will be marked TARDY to school. • a. The first three tardies in a quarter will be considered excused and should be reserved for unforeseeable circumstances. • If it is determined that a student is waiting until after 8:20 to come into school to avoid getting a demerit and associated consequence, a demerit and associated consequences will be issued.
Be sure to get official documentation when you can! • Attendance at school is a priority. • Students who do not meet state guidelines relative to school attendance will be subject to truancy mediation & possible charges – you could lose the ability to get a driver’s license. • Parent’s/Guardians could be held liable by the courts – fines/ jail or probation / parent education classes
Planned Absence • 1. Written notification of planned vacation must be presented to the main office a week in advance of trip. • 2. Student is accompanying one or both parents on this vacation. • 3. A Planned Absence Form must be obtained from the main office, fully completed and returned NO LESS THAN THREE SCHOOL DAYS IN ADVANCE to allow teachers time to provide assignments. • 4.Only one (1) planned absence will be approved per semester with no more than a total of five (5) days per school year. • 5. No planned absences are approved during final exams.

School Fees • Students, whose school fees are not paid in full prior to January 1st, will be denied transportation to and/or participation in all extracurricular activities. Upon receipt of fee payments students will have the privilege of participation reinstated. A payment plan may be established through the main office. Denial starts September 1st, 2013 for any old fees from past school years • Possible fee waiver if you qualify for free lunch all fees excluding the handbook fee are exempt. Reduced lunch equates to a 50% reduction in your fees.

Athletic Eligibility • In order to be eligible in grades 9-12, a student must be currently enrolled • and must have been enrolled in school the immediately preceding grading period. During the preceding grading period, the student must have received passing grades in a minimum of five (5) one-credit courses or the equivalent, which count toward graduation. Students must also achieve a grade point average of 1.5 or higher. Students pass five one-credit courses with a GPA below 1.5 will given conditional eligibility. When interim grades are submitted the student-athlete must have a 1.5 or higher to remain eligible.

Husky High Achievers • HUSKY HIGH ACHIEVERS • HHA is a program that recognizes students that are doing well academically along with good behavior. This program has 4 levels: Gold, Blue, Gray and White • HHA also includes the student of the day and student of the month recognition • HHA is a work in progress.
Honor Roll • The Honor Roll at Northwestern High School is based upon a student’s grades and GPA. To be on the Honor Roll you must have all A’s and/or B’s. • 1st Honors: 4.010 – over • 2nd Honors: 3.750-4.000 • 3rd Honors: 3.000-3.740
