  2. Definitions of PERFORMANCE ART Art form that arose in Europe and the U.S. in the 1960s. The term describes an art that is live but operates outside the traditional conventions of theatre or music. Early examples represented a challenge to orthodox art forms and cultural norms by creating an ephemeral art experience that could not be captured or purchased. By the 1970s performance art was used as a general term to describe a multitude of activities, including happenings, body art, actions, events, and non-matrix theatre. Prominent performance artists have included Joseph Beuys, John Cage, Dennis Oppenheim, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Meredith Monk, and Laurie Anderson. - Concise Encyclopedia

Domestic Tension …and Counting • In his performance domestic tension he remained in a gallery space for a month while viewers shot paintballs at him • In this performance he had 5000 red ink dots tattooed on his body for American casualties in IRAQ, and 100,000 dots for “unidentified and forgotten” Iraqi victims.

NONSENSE ? • Would this work have been more meaningful if it had stayed a mystery and never been packaged and sold? • Would it make a difference if it was a plan to sell it from the beginning or a fluke?   13. EXPECTATIONS YOUR FINISHED PERFORMANCE FILM WILL HAVE: Use a portion of poetry or significant verbal text Include you in filmed portion Will have artwork you made or other personal items that mean something to you Include at least 4 imovie editing elements YOU ENJOYING BEING AN ARTIST!!!!!!

  14. THIS WEEKEND Brainstorm ideas for a visual performance piece Gather images of and/or your artwork, photos of anything you want to incorporate, props and sounds into a jump drive
