Safety Briefing Requirements for All CAPR 62-1 (3d) CAP Safety Responsibilities and Procedures All CAP members must obtain a monthly 15 minute face-to-face briefing (or Make-up) before they may participate in any CAP activity (including unit meetings). February 2009 Safety Briefing
To receive credit . . . . . • Upon completion of this briefing, send an email stating: • Subject: February Safety Briefing “Emergency Preparedness: What goes in My Emergency Kit?” completed. • Wing Staff: Send to Judy.Candelaria@kirtland.af.mil • Squadrons: Send to your Squadron Safety Officer
Emergency Kits depend on intended use • Car / Van -- Consider: Environment, Road Hazards, and Accidents • Office / Home -- Consider Accidents, Illness • CAP Aircraft -- Consider Environment, Aircraft malfunction, Accidents • Other: Water, recreation, Mission base, etc.
Preparedness begins with a Plan • Remember: Give or Get a Safety Briefing before any and all CAP activities, tailored to the activity Seniors Cadets Civilians
Emergency Preparedness Kits: Always remember these 5 items • Briefing and Plan • Communications – who do you call? • Environment -- Personal protection • Tools and equipment • FIRST AID KIT
CAP VANS AND AUTOS • Briefing and Plan (Always) • Communicate: Cell phone and #s • Environment: Cold: Gloves, headgear, jackets, proper shoes Hot: Hat, water, sunscreen, long sleeves • Equipment:Spare,Tire tools, jack, tire gauge, Fire Extinguisher • FIRST AID KIT -- think blood, accidents
OFFICE / INDOORS • Briefing and Plan (ie Fire Evacuation) • Communicate: 911 but on Base . . . . KAFB 853-9111 • Environment: • Tools:Fire Extinguishers • FIRST AID KIT -- think blood and falls
CAP AIRCRAFT • Briefing / Plan (Fire, escape, etc) • Communicate: Handheld radio + freqs (Base, 121.5, local, ATC), mirror, • Environment:Gloves, headgear, jackets, • Aircraft Survival Kit • Tools: Oil, Multi-purpose tool, safety wire tool?, foot air pump, others? • FIRST AID KIT: Think blood, accidents, fractures
