  2. Certain verbs with irregular Preterite Tense forms can be categorized by a letter in the verb stem. • Remember: For REGULAR verbs the stem = Verb Infinitive (minus) last 2 letters • For these verbs the stem must be LEARNED individually by verb.

  5. Verb Meaning Stem The “i” group • Verbs in this group: hacer to make/do hic- hacer - él/ella/ud. form hiz- querer to want quis- venir to come vin-

  9. Certain verbs can change meaning in the Preterite • conocer = met for first time • querer = tried • no querer = refused • saber = found out • tener = received/got

  10. Ejemplos • ¿Qué hiciste anoche? What did you do last night? • Tuve una reuníon a las siete. I had a meeting at seven. • No pudieron conseguir las entradas. They were not able to get the tickets. • Elena supo la verdad sobre su novio. Elena found out the truth about her boyfriend.
