D2.0 Location Changes Summary Authors: Date: 2008-03-20 Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Abstract This presentation summarizes the changes specified in 08/0441r0 normative text changes for location in D2.0. Goal was to keep all features but simplify how they are defined and used so that all could be implemented easily Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Location Request/Response • Replaced Location Request/Response frames with more succinct and meaningful separate frames for specific purposes • Aligned location data exchange with 11k measurement request/response • Service options (i.e. timed location updates) better fit with measurement request/response • Reuse 11k LCI for Geodetic • So removed capability from 11v • Added Location Civic Request/Report • Removed various sub-options that were comment fodder • Instead of multiple encodings now just have a single encoding method implicit in request/report • Removed [highest, ap, building] resolution field as many found it confusing and had negligible value • Added Location Identifier Request/Report Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Location Configuration Request/Response • Only used to configure STA to transmit new Location Track Notification frame so that other STAs can track location • Simplified options in config to provide this function • Removed any exchange of location data as that was editorial problem anyway Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Location Track Notification • Public action frame • Replaces Location “Request” frames that were transmitted periodically • Defined as a public action frame (as it should have been anyway) • Includes simplified set of information • Radio • Motion • Time Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Time Measurement • Two separated features • 1) Time Of Departure • 2) Time Synchronization Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Time Of Departure • Optional feature used in combination with Location Track Notification • Updates to Clause 10, 12, 15…etc to match • New procedures in Clause 11 • New MIB object for enabling feature Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Time Measurement • Pulled time measurement out to a separate Timing Measurement public action frame • Updates to Clause 10 to match • New procedures in Clause 11 • Added Time Measurement bit to Extended Capabilities IE • New MIB object for time measurement Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
General Clause 10 • Completely updated for all changes Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
Clause 11: Location Procedures • Added separate Clause 11 for location data exchange for civic and identifier frames under 11k sections • Followed 11k LCI Clause 11 style and content • Other location behavior simplified to specify configuration behavior and track notification Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
PICS • Updated to include new separated functions • Clarify optional features for • Motion • TOD • Time Measurement Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
MIB • Added new RRM MIB objects • Civic • Identifier • Added new MgmtOptions for • Time sync • TOD • Motion Allan Thomson, Cisco Systems
