  1. Food Science and Human Nutrition Classroom Proposal Presented to the UTFABFebruary 3, 2014Dave Carpenter, Director of IT, College of Health and Human Sciences

  2. CHHS Background • Very high enrollment college • 6 academic departments and 2 schools • 5 of the 15 largest undergrad majors at CSU • 2 of the 10 largest graduate majors at CSU • As of fall 2013: • 4631 undergraduate students enrolled • 668 graduate students enrolled

  3. Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) • FSHN is a nationally renowned department and is very popular at CSU • 575 undergraduate majors • Approx. 90 graduate majors • High demands on student technology, most of which supported by the CHHS CFT fee • FSHN is housed in the Gifford building, which is aging and overfilled

  4. Room 237 Gifford

  5. Room 237 Gifford

  6. Room 237 Gifford

  7. The Problem • The technology in room 237 is woefully out of date and is negatively impacting the learning experience for FSHN students • High quality instructional technology is imperative to the success of FSHN students • CHHS and FSHN have some funds to help achieve this goal, but not enough to fund 100% of the project

  8. The Proposal • Upgrade the instructional technology in room 237 Gifford to bring them in line with CSU/CHHS/FSHN standards • Smart technology installation has been estimated at $19,857 for the room • $3,000 for installation, $16,857 for equipment • This includes standard smart classroom equipment, such as a projector, screen, lectern, audio, and document camera

  9. The Proposal, cont. • If approved, the college would plan on cost-sharing the classroom technology install at 50% • Funding would come from a variety of sources internal to the college • Proposed impact to the University Technology Fee: $9,928 • Proposed completion during the summer of 2014
