About percolation and permeability Percolation, also referred to as Permeability – the condition of a ‘water-saturated’ soil that controls water flow through the entire root zone, or through horizons of interest (usually the upper 60 inches). Synonymous with permeability, percolation is limited by the most compacted, massive, or clayey layer or horizon in the profile. May be referred to or measured as infiltration.
