Ab-initio calculations with an external field ~Initial results~ James P. Vary, Iowa State January 22, 2008 Collaborators: Pieter Maris, Iowa State Richard Furnstahl, Ohio State Scott Bogner, Michigan State Foundations (depending on renormalization of H [RN]): 1. ab-initio No-Core Shell Model (NCSM): RN = Lee-Suzuki 2. Full Configuration Interaction (FCI): Bare H, RN = Vlowk, SRG
Problem statement is either a bare or renormalizedHamiltonian Initial results Isoscalar, symmetric, spin-independent, harmonic Investigate convergence properties with FCI Next steps Obtain 1-body density matrices Isovector, non-symmetric, spin dependent,…
FCI Convergence: Non-interacting nucleons in a harmonic trap
Conclusions and Outlook • Using N3LO/SRG{=1.5 Fm-1} and Uext, one finds regions where Hint and H = Hint + Hext are well-converged • Convergence improves as Uextincreases • Need to include V3N/SRG {=1.5 Fm-1} for consistency • Extend to spin-dependent, charge-dependent, asymmetric, . . . , external fields • Obtain 1-body densities as a function of Uext • Need consensus on priorities (outcomes of this workshop!)
