Vertebrates • Vertebrates are animals with an endoskeleton • Vertebrates have muscle, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems, and sensory organs
Fish • Have gills that pull oxygen out of water • Have swim bladder • Have sensory organs (lateral line)
Jawless Fish • Slender tube-like shape • No jaws but have teeth • Digestive system with no stomach
Cartilaginous Fish • Skeleton made of cartilage • Includes sharks • Include rays and skates
Bony Fish • Skeleton made of hard bone • Most have scales • Have jaws and teeth and several pairs of fins
Amphibians • Live some of life in water and some on land • Lay eggs in water • Obtain oxygen through smooth, moist skin (some have lungs)
Reptiles • Have tough dry skin covered with scales • Have lungs and sensory organs adapted for land • Lay eggs with shells on land
Birds • Have feathers and hollow bones for flying • Have pair of scaly legs and a pair of wings and a beak • Hard shelled eggs need to be kept at a constant temperature
Mammals • Have hair during part of its life • Most have specialized teeth • Produce milk to feed young
