Grad Lab Overview • 4 computers in room 259 • Each computer has Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SPSS, Internet Explorer, Firefox, QuickTime, Acrobat Reader, FreeMind • No Food or Drinks allowed in the labs • Your student card must be encoded to enter the labs • Drop off your student card at the reception desk for encoding.
Undergrad Lab Overview • 24 computers in each lab, rooms 390 and 394 • Each computer has Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Write-n-Cite, Pyxis, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Real Player, QuickTime, Acrobat Reader, FreeMind • SPSS (for statistics) is available in room 390 only • Lab Hours 8:00AM – 10:00PM Mon – Thurs 8:00AM – 4:45PM Friday Closed Saturday and Sunday • No Food or Drinks allowed in the labs • Your student card must be encoded to enter the labs
Iridium – Computer Accounts Website • You can claim your computer accounts by going to the computer accounts website called Iridium: http://www.umanitoba.ca/iridium • Or login to any lab computer with username: claimid and no password to access the Iridium website • You will need your student number, date of birth and last name in order to complete the claim ID process • If you forget your password or need help getting your ID contact the support office by • Email support@umanitoba.ca • Telephone - (204) 474-8600 • In-person – 123 Fletcher Argue (close to B lot and Greenhouse Café)

Email Account • Once you have claimed a CCU account you will have a U of M email address • You can access your email from the U of M webmail page at http://www.umanitoba.ca/webmail • You are required to communicate with your instructors using this email address • If you would like to setup an email program to instead of using the webmail site instructions are available at: http://www.umanitoba.ca/computing/ist/email/software/index.html • Use the instructions for IMAP email instead of POP • If you would like to setup your email on a smartphone the email server information is available at: http://www.umanitoba.ca/computing/ist/connect
H Drive • Once you have claimed an INS or computer lab account you will also have storage space on the U of M servers • This space is under drive letter H on the lab computers • This can be used to store your files so they can be accessed from almost any lab computer on campus. You should still keep a copy on a USB drive for your own backup as well • H drive is also accessible from home by going to http://ins.umanitoba.ca • Do not save files in “My Documents”, on the desktop, or anywhere else besides the H drive. They will be deleted when you log out of the system
Printing in the Labs • Two laser printers • 10¢/Page • Purchase printing credit at the reception desk – There is a $2.00 minimum • Credit should be available right away • Your balance will be associated with your user name and will follow you to any computer in the Nursing computer labs • Double click or hover over the dollar sign ($) icon in the bottom right to see your balance
Printing in the Lab • Check your balance before printing • If you do not have enough credit on your account to complete the entire print job it will not start • There is no colour printer available in the Faculty of Nursing • The Campus Copy Centre is your best option
Nursing Webpage • The nursing website is at http://www.umanitoba.ca/nursing/ • This page will have important news and events going on in the faculty • Check it often
Skills Lab Videos • The skills lab videos are available from the Faculty of Nursing site by going to Information for All Students – Information for Current Undergraduate Students – Course Management Resources, or: • http://www.umanitoba.ca/faculties/nursing/current/undergrad/4year/course_management.html • If you are having trouble watching the videos from home you can view them in the lab • The lab computers have headsets and play the videos using Windows Media Player by default
JUMP, Angel, Desire2Learn (D2L) • JUMP is a web portal that has links to information about your courses and other campus services: • http://www.umanitoba.ca/jump • You can sign up for parking and emergency text notifications through JUMP • Instructors are using D2L for their course: • http://www.umanitoba.ca/D2L
Wireless Access at the U of M • The Helen Glass building is covered with wireless internet for most areas • You will see two wireless networks or SSID’s: uofm and uofm-wpa • The uofm is unencrypted (not secure) and not recommended • Information on connecting to uofm-wpa is available at: http://www.umanitoba.ca/computing/ist/access/wireless • Both methods require your email account name and password • If you need help with wireless contact the support office by • Email support@umanitoba.ca • Telephone - (204) 474-8600 • In-person – 123 Fletcher Argue (close to B lot and Greenhouse Café) • Wireless access is not guaranteed and you may not always be able to connect
