Health Effects of Mobile Phones ? Rolf Nilsen Sept 10 2008
Contents • Why this subject is important • Who does it concern • Symbols and definitions • Reference levels for general public • Result from field measurements • References • Conclusion
Why this subject is important • High exposure levels from transmitters can harm people. • Antennas for base stations ”come closer and closer ” every day • We have to be sure that the electromagnetic field from mobile phones and base stations is safe
Who does it concern Health authority Public Operators & planners R&D PT
Reference levels for general public Freq. range E-field H-field Power density 10- 400 MHz 28 0.073 2 400-2000 ” 1.37 2-300 GHz 61 0.16 10 SAR f= freq. In MHz
Results from measurements • Measurements in Bergen 2000 • Measurements in Oslo 2001 • Measurements in large office buildings 2004
References • COST259 Health effects of Mobile Phones • WHO • Statens Strålevern • ICNIRP 7/1999 • Telenor Guideline on RF field
Conclusion • What we know to day! • There is no evidence on brain cancer or other diseases caused by mobile phone. • But, there are people who react negatively to electromagnetic field even if the power density is very low.
